One of the large storage jars contained this, the oldest 'book' ever found. It is actually a hinged, wooden writing tablet, called a diptych, which could be folded shut to protect the writing inscribed on the waxed inner surface.
With ivory hinges, the inner faces of the leaves were crosshatched with lines and recessed to hold the wax, which would have been inscribed with a stylus. Unfortunately all trace of the wax was gone.
Though Homer described such a writing tablet, this is the first one to have been found which dates from the Bronze Age.
